Could vitamin D reduce the risk of COVID-19?

Nino Turashvili, Lali Javashvili

Abstract

In December, 2019, several  cases  of pneumonia  of unknown cause was identified  in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. Further analysis revealed the  reason of an outbreak – a novel β  coronavirus which was named as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), that causes coronavirus disease 2019  - COVID-19. The outbreak of novel coronavirus  has spread rapidly worldwide. At the same time, scientists started working hard to create a medicine  and a vaccine. However, there is still no specific drug for COVID-19 now. In this situation, before creating specific treatment and vaccine,  it is especially important to find some  therapeutic option that may have a positive effect in the prevention or treatment of the disease. We have reviewed the literature on the possible link between vitamin D and COVID-19.
